The Federal government says it is committed to a three billion dollars project tagged Nigeria Strategy on Immunization and PHC system Strengthening, NSIPSS in abid to address Hepatitis.
This is to help the transitioning to financial ownership of immunization and primary health care system over a ten-year period, from 2018-2028.
The minister of health Dr Osagie Ehanire made this known at a press conference in Abuja to mark the world Hepatitis day
The Minister explained that the ministry was forming an alliance with the Regional Resolution to reduce Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infection to less than 2% in children under five years by the end of this year.
Dr Ehanire said One of the major challenges of Hepatitis B birth dose vaccination was the inadequate domestic contribution to finance vaccines and expand access to services.
He however stressed that the government had made significant progress in addressing the inequities in the uptake of routine vaccines and improvement of coverage for hepatitis B virus, HBV Birth Dose.
The HBV birth dose coverage in 2019 was at 59%.
