The Ondo state independent electoral commission ODIEC is to conduct a rerun for in areas where elections were cancelled in the just concluded local government polls.
ODIEC chairman, Professor Yomi Dinakin stated this while addressing journalists at the commission’s headquarter in Akure.
According to him, cases of electoral violence and snatching of ballot boxes were recorded in some wards in Akure south local government which compelled the commission to cancel the elections in such areas.
Professor Dinakin further stated that a new date will be announced soon but affirmed the victory of all progressive congress in all the 18 local government chairmanship seats in Ondo state.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria after recieving his certificate of return, chairman Ondo East local government Mr Akinkuotu Augustine said he would put in place agricultural policies that would boost the economy of the area.
The chairman of Owo local government, Chief Adegbengi Samuel promised to provide quality leadership that would bring about overall development of his local government.
On his part Mr Olaniyi Gbenga, chairman Akure south local government, promised to embark on empowerment of his people.
The eighteen local government chairmen and their vice have since received their certificate of return and sworn in by the Ondo state governor Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
