No fewer than 65 cows and a herdsman Adamu Yusuf were arrested by Amotekun corps in Ondo state.
They were arrested following a complaint lodged by farmers in Odoripo community of Oda town against the herdsmen of allegedly destroying maize, cassava and yam planted on their farmland.
It was gathered that the herdsmen and cows were caught in the act at night as the farmers put the value of the crops distroyed to be 5.6 million.
It was also gathered that the Amotekun corps went to the farm at night and nabbed the herdsmen together with the 65 cows as they matched them from Odo-igbo community farm land to the Amotekun headquarters in Alagbaka in an operation that took place between 10 pm to 3am.
The source revealed that the arrested cows and suspects were released having parted with #500,000.
Confirming the arrest, the Commander Ondo security agency Amotekun, Mr Adeleye Olatunji warned the herdsmen to stop destroying farms in the state.
He said “If you continue to disturb farmers and there farms there will be farming. This is because there will be no food for people to eat. This is why we are asking you to talk to your men not to distroy people’s farm land.
Speaking on behalf the Meyitt Allah Association in the south West Alhaji Abubakar Audu Chairman Ekiti state said “I appreciate the efforts of the state Governor for allowing us to resolve amicably.
“We have had a meeting in the south West telling our herdsmen not to papetrate any havoc and we will keep talking to them and displinary action most be taken. ”
