Radio Nigeria correspondent in Osun State, Mr Wasiu Ajadosu has been elected the new Chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
He was elected in a bye election conducted at the NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo.
Mr Ajadosu polled 136 votes to defeat his close rival, Mr Oludele Ajayi of Unique FM Ilesa who scored 59.
Announcing the result of the election, Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists South West Zone, Mr Cosmos Oni said a total of 196 voters participated in the exercise out of 265 accredited members.
Mr Oni commended members for their comportment which ensured a free, transparent and peaceful election.
The NUJ B Zone Vice president charged the new leadership to be magnanimous in victory.
In his acceptance remark, the newly inaugurated Osun NUJ chairman, Mr Wasiu Ajadosu appealed to members to work with him in the overall interest of the Union.
Mr Ajadosu promised to change the fortune of the Union, by resuscitating the training institute of the Union.
Some members of the Union, including the chairman of the correspondent Chapel, Mr Tunji Omofoye and the National Auditor of NAWOJ, Mrs Sola Jacobs reminded the new chairman that much was expected from him.
The office of the Osun NUJ chairman became vacant in July following the resignation of Mr Kehinde Ayantunji who has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistance to the Osun State Governor on Students and Social Mobilisation.
