In view of the need to have a peaceful governorship election in Ondo state, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Idanre, has held a special Programme tagged “Peace and Prayer Summit” to seek God’s intervention on the poll.
During the summit held at the Methodist Church Cathedral, Idale Idanre, Reverend Tunde Akinkuehin expressed sadness over the fact that the ancient town had been listed as one of the flashpoints as the election draws nearer.
Rev Akinkuehin said CAN in Idanre as stakeholders believed that with God, the election would be peaceful hence the special prayers.
He reminded politicians that it is only God that puts people in positions and not violence or bloodshed urging them not to make the poll a do or die affair.
In a sermon during the programme, Pastor Kayode Adefehinti of Voice of His Majesty Church, Alade Idanre called on political leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers and parents to sensitize their people on the need for a peaceful election.
Pastor Adefehinti lauded members of Idanre CAN Chairman, staging the prayer programme which he described as first of its kind in Idanre kingdom.
Chairman of PDP in Idanre Local Government Mr Adekunle Akinlalu assured residents of his party’s cooperarion and peaceful conduct of its members before,during and after the poll.
He also said political parties in the ancient town were meeting regularly with a view to avoiding clashes.
