The Nigerian civil society situation room has commended INEC for building on the gains of Edo state election with the conduct of Ondo State election.
The situation room however berated the prevalence of vote buying syndrome which it said was becoming a staple in the electoral process in Nigeria.
The Alternate chair of the body, Esther Uzoma at a news briefing in Akure noted the marked improvement with early commencement of poll, transparency with the use of the Z-pad for uploading results and the result viewing portal
She said reports received from its team of observers showed that vote buying was evident in a number of polling units and largely went unchecked inspite of presence of security operatives.
The situation room then renewed call for enforcement of election laws to prohibit vote buying, tasked INEC, political parties and civil society organisations to find ways at increasing participation in elections.
The body concluded that the election was relatively violence free, despite the political tension created and earlier signs of likely threat to peaceful election.
