President Muhammadu Buhari has sworn in Professor Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of INEC) for another five-year term.
The inauguration was done shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council meting at the state House Abuja.
Professor Yakubu becomes the first chairman to be reappointed to head the commission.
He told journalist after the swearing that they have clearly demonstrated in recent time that elections are getting better and they will continue to get better in the country.
The INEC Boss affirmed that this time, they would work hand in hand with the National assembly to ensure speedy passage of the amendment bill so that it could be assented to.
This, he maintained would help the commission in confronting the challenges ahead.
Also before the meeting began, a minute silence was observed for, late Gen. Domkat Bali, who served the country as Minister of Defence.
