Many students are feared missing from Government Boys Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State which was attacked by bandits on Friday night.

Confirming the attack in a telephone interview, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, SP Gambo Isah narrated that the armed bandits attacked the school at about ten in the night.

He explained that when policemen on duty around the school area were alerted of the movement of the bandits, they mobilized to the school and engaged the bandits in a gun duel to repel to attack.

He said one police officer was injured in the gun battle and was receiving treatment at General Hospital, Kankara.

The PPRO however insisted that no case of abduction has been confirmed, noting that the students had mostly escaped into the forest amidst sounds of gunshots during the exchange between the bandits and the police.

He explained that policemen on search and rescue operation have found about two hundred students in the forest and returned them to safety.

SP Gambo Isah said the police rescue team was still searching the forest in the hope of finding more students that had escaped the bandits’ attack.

Meanwhile residents of Kankara town told our correspondent that the bandits had made an earlier attempt to attack parts of the town but were repelled by troops of Operation Sahel Sanity that were stationed in the town.
