The Nigerian Governors forum has been charged to come up with proactive measures to address security challenges confronting the Nigerian schools.
The Chairman, Ondo state Civil Society Coalition, Mr Franklin Olonijo who gave the charge in an interview with Positive fm in Akure said the abduction of students was a great assault on the mental health and future of the students.
Mr Olonijo who lamented the two attacks on government secondary schools in Niger and Zamfara states in February urged the Nigerian Governors’ forum to wake up to nipping in the bud the new criminal trend of picking pupils for ransoms.
Mr Olonijo who further called for strong security in schools said there was the need for a rejig in states security architecture to enhance appropriate response in the face of attacks.
The civil society activist who explained that the eyes of the international community were on Nigerian schools, stressed the need for strict investigation and punitive action for those caught perpetrating the abductions.
