The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo has assured Lagos residents and Nigerians at large that based on the advice by the Directorate of Public Prosecution , DPP, relevant charges would be filed accordingly against a Yoruba Nollywood Actor, Mr Olanrewaju James Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha.

The Lagos State Police command had arrested Baba Ijesha on account of various sexual abuse allegations on the 30th of April and forwarded the case file to the State Ministry of Justice for the DPP legal advice.

In a statement, Mr Onigbanjo announced that after due consideration of the facts in the case file, the DPP advised on May 4, that a prima facie case had been established and recommended that Baba Ijesha should be charged on a-five- count charge of *indecent treatment of a child; punishable by seven years imprisonment, defilement of a child; punishable by life imprisonment, sexual assault by penetration; punishable by life imprisonment, attempted sexual assault by penetration; punishable by 14years imprisonment and sexual assault; punishable by three years imprisonment, under the provisions of the State criminal law 2015*

The Commissioner noted that whilst the State would ensure that the rights of Mr Olanrewaju James as enshrined in the Constitution would be upheld, the Ministry of Justice would not relent in it’s efforts at ensuring that whoever sexually abuses any resident of Lagos is speedily brought to book.

Mr Onigbanjo added that since the establishment of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team in 2014, over 800 cases of domestic and sexual violence had been prosecuted till date.
