For the third day running,  peace is yet to return to the ancient city of Ikare Akoko in Ondo state over the Olokoja Chieftancy tussle despite the heavy presence of security personnel especially army and the police.

Positive fm gathered that sporadic shootings were still going on in the  central parts of the town even as Security Operatives patrol the area.

Following the development, business activities have remained paralysed in Ikare which is the commercial nerve cente of Akokoland in the northern senatorial district of Ondo state as markets, banks, schools and motor parks remain closed.

Places such central mosque, post office, old motor park, osele market and oloko areas which were the core commercial centres were deserted while access into the town from Ado ekiti side via Irun and ogbagi had been blocked.

Newspapers vendors who usually come early in the morning have also deserted the town as it is now considered a troubled zone.

Speaking on the situation, two religious leaders Sheik Basiru Aminu and Pastor Gbenga Agbaje pleaded with the warring parties in the olokoja chieftancy tussle to sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

Violence broke out on Monday, May 3, 2021 as interest groups clashed over Olokoja Chieftancy tittle.

The situation has reportedly led to destruction of properties while many were said to have been injured and receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals.
