Nine hundred and twenty four additional polling units are to be created by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ondo State.
With this development, Ondo State will now have three thousand nine hundred and thirty three polling units.
INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in charge of Ondo State, Ambassador Rufus Akeju disclosed this at a stakeholders forum meeting for the implementation of the expansion of voter access to polling units in Nigeria held in Akure.
Ambassador Akeju noted Electoral Officers in the 18 local government areas of the state had traversed the council areas affirm voting points that would be converted to polling units.
The REC explained that the commission arrived at the figure by using the minimum threshold of seven hundred and fifty and maximum threshold of one thousand voters per Polling Unit in the unserved areas and settlements that were not in existence when polling units were created 25 years ago.
Stakeholders at the meeting included representatives of Political Parties, Heads of Security Operatives in the state, Religious leaders, Traditional Rulers, CSOs, NUJ and reps of people living with disabilities.
