The Federal Government has commissioned agents to register  Nigerians across the world for the National Identification Numbers.

Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Zubairu Dada made this known in Abuja at the Maiden Edition of the Nigeria in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Quarterly lecture series with the theme, ” Mobilising Nigerians in Diaspora for national development”.

According to him, the Federal Government realises the impact of the Diaspora to the development of the nation, hence the need to give them every opportunity to relate with their roots.

The mobilisation of Nigerians in Diaspora for national development has over time become more pertinent given the ever growing contribution of Nigerians in the Diaspora to National development”.

Also speaking, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola said the ministry had recently launched electronic temporary passport to ease the burden for Nigerians whose passports had expired and prevented from to travelling back to Nigeria.

He said recently a Special passport enrolment exercise which gives the Nigeria Immigration Service personnel the opportunity to meet with Nigerians in their country of residence and get them enrolled for passport has commenced in Canada and USA.

The Chairman Nigerians In Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the Diaspora Lecture Series was projected to be a major aspect of national discourse where Nigerians both in the country and in the Diaspora can be kept abreast of the plans of the Government for her Diaspora community through NIDCOM.
