The Osun State Police Command says it has foiled attempts to abduct passengers on Akure/Ilesha road on Saturday, May 22, 2021

In a statement signed by the State Police public relations officer, SP Yemisi Opalola said kidnappers suspected to be bandits came out of the bush and attempted to rob and kidnap motorists along Akure/Ilesha road by Iwaraja on Saturday at about 6pm.

The Police spokesperson said the kidnappers could not carry out their mission due to the quick intervention of the Police, Joint Task Force (JTF), and local security outfits.

“It is true that people that were suspected to be Bandits came out of the bush and attempted robbing the motorists along Akure/Ilesa road, by Iwaraja on Saturday May 21, 2021 at about 1800 hours.

The owners of those vehicles later came out and carried the vehicles away. The DPO Ijebu Jesa really tried in that operation as the witnesses and the DPO Ipetu Jesa that came to the road also told me,” she said.

While reacting to the viral video on the incident, she said: “The man talking in the video thought that they have carried the drivers away, not knowing that, those people ran away to safety. They hid themselves somewhere & later came out, the Police were with them until the last vehicle left.

Presently, an intensive manhunt is against them to ensure their arrest. The CP want them arrested by all means.”
