Unknown gunmen have again attacked Orji police divisional headquarters in Owerri shooting sporadically after allegedly setting the area ablaze.
The situation forced residents of the area and passersby to scamper to safety.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations officer in the state Command, SP Bala Elkana a team of policemen led by the Commissioner of Police Mr. Abutu Yaro repelled the hoodlums.
He said five suspects had been arrested in connection with the crime while efforts were on to apprehend others still at large with their arms.
Mr. Elkana said no life was lost during the incident.
The release added that three vehicles used in the attack by the hoodlums were recovered by the police.
Security has been beefed up across Owerri as major roads in the metropolis are barricaded.
Orji divisional police headquarters was one of the police facilities that was razed during the #ENDSARS# protest last year.
