A Civil Society Organization and a Niger Delta Rights Group, Ogoni Liberation Initiative, OLI has condemned plans by the Federal Government and the Nigeria Governor’s Forum to approve a new pump price of petroleum from the present 162 Naira to 385 Naira.

President of the organization, Dr Douglas Fabeke who made the call at a press Conference in Abuja alleged that the Nigeria Governors Forum was mounting pressure on certain stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to approve the fuel increase.

Dr Fabeke said the increase would cause untold hardship on millions of Nigerians who were already facing huge difficulties from the nation’s ailing economy.

He called on Governors to be more innovative in generating internal revenue to meet the demands of running their various states rather than rely on federal allocations.

Dr Fabeke also called on the Federal Government to make frantic and genuine efforts to revive the nation’s refineries in order to check fuel importation.
