Fish Sellers in Akure have staged a peaceful protest demanding the disbandment of their Association.
The protesters who were mainly women and under the umbrella of Fish Sellers Association of Nigeria, Akure Chapter walked from the popular Oba market to Governor’s office in Akure.
They accused leaders of the Association of bringing untold hardship on them which they claimed had led to the untimely death of one of them.
They explained that the leadership of the Association prevented the deceased from buying fish from a cold room just because she was still owing a sum of #1,000 for her membership form.
The situation allegedly forced the woman to dodge under an old building which they said eventually collapsed on her.
Two of the fish sellers, Mrs Blessing Johnson and Mrs Foluke Ajayi pointed out that the actions of the Union’s leadership had become unbearable.
Addressing the protesters, the senior special assistant to governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on security matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo assured them that government would get to the root of the matter.
