A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Department of State Services, DSS, to produce 12 Yoruba Nation agitators arrested and placed in detention since the second of this month.
The court made the order following an ex- parte motion moved by Mr. Pelumi Olajengbesi on behalf of the applicants.
In the motion exparte, the applicants had prayed for an order of the court mandating and compelling the respondents to produce them in court for them to be arraigned.
Mr. Olajengbesi argued that the applicants had remained in custody for 20 days and had been denied access to their lawyers and relatives.
The Counsel to the applicant also reminded the court that the sole purpose of democracy was to ensure that government agencies and citizens abide by the rule of law.
After listening to the applicant’s motion, the judge, Justice Obiorah Egwuatu, ordered the DSS to produce the applicants to court and therefore adjourned the matter until Thursday, next weèk.
