The National Youth Service Corps NYSC says none of the Corps members, staff, and other stakeholders in Orientation camps across the Country have tested positive to Covid-19.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, the Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi explained that all the prospective corps members and other interest groups were duly tested by officials of the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC before admittance into the Camps.
Mrs. Adeyemi stressed emphasized that only prospective corps member confirmed negative were admitted into the Camps while those that tested positive were immediately handed over to the NCDC officials.
The NYSC Director Press said that even the Director General of the scheme undergoes Covid-19 tests before entering any orientation camp.
She explained that one becomes a Corps Member after admittance to the camp, registration and administration of the Oath of National Allegiance.
Mrs. Adenike stated that those mobilised for Service, but had not gone through the registration process could not be regarded as a Corps Member.
She appealed to journalists to avoid sensational reports that could unnecessarily cause fear and apprehension in the Country.
Mrs Adeyemi allayed the fears of parents and other stakeholders regarding Covid-19 as well as adequate security of their wards.
The Director Press and Public Relations of the NYSC stressed that the wellbeing of corps members remained the priority of the Scheme.
