Hundreds of residents of Osogbo capital, of Osun State on Wednesday rushed to the Osun River at Gbodofon area to catch a glimpse of an unidentified middle-aged commercial motorcyclist who reportedly jumped into the river.

It was gathered that the incident happened around 4:15 PM when the motorcyclist suddenly stopped on the bridge, received a phone call and jumped into the river.

Our correspondent who visited the scene observed a large crowd of sympathisers standing in awe wondering what could push the motorcyclist to voluntarily jumped into the high current river.

A witness named Taiwo Adebiyi said the Okada man was riding from Ogo-Oluwa side through Aregbe area when he stopped to receive a phone call on the bridge, threw his phone to the river and jumped into it without putting off the ignition.”

However, the police were at the scene to take the motorcycle with registration number PKA 915 VI to their station.

When the administrative officer of Osun State Fire Service, Mr Ibrahim Adekunle, was contacted, he confirmed the incident noting that search has commenced to recover the body of the motorcyclist.

Public Relation Officer of Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola also disclosed that effort was ongoing to rescue the motorcyclist.
