The People of Isinkan, Akure have celebrated the annual yam festival with funfair.

The ceremony known as Idasu began at the resident of Olori Omowa, Pa Durojaye Ariyo at Agunloye street Akure.

The yam bearing girls bored the newly harvested yams to Iralepo Palace with dancing steps.

As soon as the girls arrived, the atmosphere was charged as they offered the yams to the Regent, Iralepo of Isinkan,  Princess Margret Ifedayo Omonije.

Some of the girls who bored the yams Mariam Ibrahim and Kemisola Ariyo to expressed joy for partaking in the celebration.

The market women were not left out as the Iyaloja of Isinkan market, Chief Mrs Bolarinwa Temitope led her colleagues to mark the celebration.

On their parts the elemo of Isinkan Chief Olaseinde Abidakun and the Oshodi of Isinkan Chief Bayo Ayiloge thanked God for witnessing this year’s celebration.

Speaking to the Regent Iralepo of Isinkan Princess Margret Ifedayo Omonije said the festival was being marked to usher in bumper harvest in the coming year.

Highpoint of the celebration was cooking of the newly harvested yams for everyone to eat.
