Food security in Nigeria can be achieved with ease if appropriate water usage policies are implemented.

A Professor of Agricultural Engineering, Kunmi Akinbile stated this while delivering FUTA 135th inaugural lecture in Akure titled – The Wealth of Waste: From Water to Rice..

Professor Akinbile who was so enthusiastic about food security in the nation, submitted that properly treated waste water could enhance rice production thereby preventing perennial rice smuggling to the nation through land borders.

He charged the authorities to create a synergy between the irrigation farmers and meteorological Agency for reliable weather information to enhance optimal crop production.

Earlier, FUTA Vice chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape had lauded the academic exploits of Professor Akinbile noting that the nation could tap from his wealth of knowledge to improve food productivity.

Dignitaries from all walks of life including academics , scholars , Former OAU Vice Chancellor , Professor Michael Faborode, Secretary , Afenifere , Basorun Seinde Arogbofa , GM Positive FM , Mr Tunde Abiodun represented by the station’s head of ICT , Mr Lanre Oluwateru , families and friends of the don graced the occasion.
