It was all commendation and appreciation for Positive fm community reporter, Alhaji Ibrahim Kilani at the grand finale of the thirtieth anniversary of Akoko Northwest local government area of Ondo state.
Alhaji Kilani was honoured with an award of excellence for his selfless service to the local government since its creation in 1991.
Presenting the award, chairman of the local government Council, Mr Ayodele Akande said the recipient deserved the honour as he contributed immensely to the development of the area despite being a senior citizen.
Mr Akande noted that Alhaji Kilani was one of the signatories to the memorandum that demanded for the creation of Akoko Northwest local government council and had seen to its growth since its creation by the former head of states, General Ibrahim Babangida’s regime.
According to the council Chairman, the award recipient also among other things instituted award for newborns, carried out prompt reporage of activities of the area in the media with many challenges resolved by government and quick intervention in communal as well as religious conflicts as the chairman of Nigeria Inter Religion Council, NIREC.
Mr Akande appreciated Alhaji Kilani for his efforts at ensuring that Akoko northwest compete favourably with other council areas in terms of infrastructure.
Receiving the award, Alhaji kilani said he was overwhelmed by the honour done him especially that such award came from home.
He said even though he was a Senior citizen, he owed his community the selfless service towards tranforming the local government promising to use the rest of his life to serve his people without waiting for any reward.
The ceremony attracted many dignitaries including a retired Chief Jdge of Ondo state, Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi, Chairman, Governing council of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Dr Tunji Abayomi A member of the Ondo state house of Assembly, Hon Jamiu Maito, Major General Dayo Olukoju Rtd, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ikare police area commander, ACP Muhri Agboola, The Akala of Ikaram ,Oba Andrew Momodu, Zaki of Arigidi, Oba Yisa Olanipekun, Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Olasehinde Adetona, The Alafin of Afin Oba Abdulraheem Adejoro.
In the meantime, the management and staff of Positive fm Akure has congratulated Alhaji Kilani, describing the honour as well deserved.
The general manager, Mr Tunde Abiodun in a statement acknowledged the undying love of the recipient for community journalism which he noted had brought the entire Akokoland into limelight.
Mr Abiodun urged him not to relent in his commitment towards developing his fatherland.
