A less than 40 minutes downpour on Sunday has wreaked havoc in the ancient town of Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, killing one resident and leaving many homeless.

The rain which started around 7pm was accompanied by heavy storm and removed roofs of over 150 houses while many tress in the affected areas also succumbed to the storm.

Positive fm gathered that the deceased was a popular butcher in the commercial never centre of Akokoland and was simply known as AYEPARETI.

It was learnt that the man was trying to take cover in one of the affected residences during the rain but one of the buildings  collapsed on him and was rushed to the hospital where he was later confirmed dead.

Areas badly affected by the rainstorm were Ilepa, okela and part of okoja where residents were now counting their losses to the disaster.
