Two hundred and sixty two escapees of the Abolongo prison break have been recaptured.
The public relation officer of the Nigerian correctional service,DSC Olarewaju Anjorin made this known in a release made available to radio nigeria.
The statements states that five hundred and seventy five others are still at large.
It says the command has commenced the process of search and recapture after visiting the scene of the incident.
the statement also indicates that no effort will be spared to recapture the fleeing inmates .
It further solicit for credible intelligence to aid security agencies in tracking down the fugitives.
The correctional centre at abalongo, Oyo town was established in year 2007 with a capacity of 160 inmates but as at the time of the attack had total population of 907 ,
of this number awaiting trial persons were 837 representing 92% with just 64 convicts.
Meanwhile ,the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola in his reaction to the issue,has assured members of the public to go about their normal businesses as the situation is under control.
He also requires members of the public to report any suspicious movement or any sign of the escaped inmates and the gunmen around their vicinity to the nearest security post around them.
