The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu says the Anambra governorship election slated for November sixth will hold as Scheduled.

Professor Yakubu stated this during an interactive meeting with Heads of Security Agencies in the state at the INEC headquarters Awka, Anambra state.

According to him, the Commission has done everything it could to ensure the election holds as scheduled.

He acknowledged that the security agencies in the states has done everything they could and is still doing what they can to ensure that the environment is secured.

The INEC Chairman gave an assurance that the election will be free, fair and credible as well as peaceful based on assurances from the security agencies.

On the issue of availability of permanent voters for new Registrants, as well as the replacement of cards for those who registered earlier, INEC Boss said all cards have been printed and delivered to the twenty one Local Government Areas, Anambra state and are being collected by the electorates.

In a remark, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra state Mr Echeng Echeng said two Deputy Inspector Generals, Five Assistant Inspector Generals as well as Commissioners of police to take care of all the twenty one local government areas were already on ground to coordinate the activities of the Police.

Stakeholders at the meeting

He said that other security agencies including DSS, ARMY, NAVY, FRSC , NSCDC, and IMMIGRATION have also deployed their men to strategic positions around the state.

The Commissioner of Police hinted that the command intends to have a lockdown on Thursday night to enable them control movement in and out of the state to ensure people don’t come into the state to make troubles on election day.

Mr Echeng called on the people of the state to report any security bridge or issues as joint patrol teams are on ground to gurantee safety of life and property during and after Saturday gubernatorial poll.

Eight Resident Electoral Commissioners including that of Anambra state , Doctor Nkwachukwu Orji , and Supervising National Commissioner , Mr Festus Okoye as well as Heads of Other Security Agencies in the state were part of the meeting with the INEC chairman.
