The Ondo State House of Assembly has charged contractor handling the dual carriageway from Oba Adesida-Oba Osupa-Oluwatuyi-Oke Iya, Ijoka to speed up work on the road project.
The Chairman House Committee on Works & Infrastructure, Mr Olamide Oladiji gave the charge when the representatives of the company handling the roads project, Fountain Construction Company, FCC and Ministry of Works appeared before the Commmitee.
The Lawmakers had summoned the contractor after an oversight visit to the project site where they expressed displeasure over low pace of work on the roads.
Mr Oladiji urged the contractor to do the needful by ensuring timely completion of the project in the interest of the people of the state.
Contributing, two members of the committee, Mr Olugbenga Omole and Mrs Favour Tomomewo emphasized on the importance of the roads to the people of the affected areas noting that the lawmakers were responsible to the people.
The lawmakers called on the Ministry of Works and the contractor to reach a compromise on the variations in the prices of materials as affected by the economic situation in the country.
Responding, the Managing Director of the construction company, FCC, Mr Femi Adeyemo appealed for more time as the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world had adversely affected the pace job.
Mr Adeyemo also urged the Ministry of Works to consider their request on the variations in prices of materials which cause the setback to the timely implementation of the project coupled with the long duration of rainfall this year.
