The Ondo State House of Assembly wants local government authorities to judiciously spend funds allocated to various projects.
The lawmakers made this known when the Ad-hoc Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs led by its Chairman and the Deputy Speaker, Mr Samuel Aderoboye visited Akure North and Akure South Local Government areas on oversight function.
Mr Aderoboye who warned the local government executives to avoid misappropriation and diversion of funds said the visit was to ensure accountability and prudence.
The Deputy Speaker called for synergy between the Executive and Legislative arms of the local government towards even development at the grassroots.
The lawmakers while emphasizing on the importance of local government administration said such synergy would compliment the state government’s efforts at developing the state.
A member of the Committee and the Majority Leader of the House, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi said the visit was not to witch-hunt anybody but to ensure that funds allocated to council areas are spent on projects that would benefit the people.
The visit of the Ad-hoc Committee followed various reports and allegations that the ten million naira released to each of the 18 local government areas by the State Government for capital projects are not being channelled for its original intentions.
