A chieftain of the All progressives congress, APC, Prince Demola Adegoroye says his intention to run in the bye-election into the vacant seat of Akure South/North federal constituency is basically to better the lot of his constituents.
The seat became vacant following the death of the occupier, Hon Adedayo Omolafe aka Expensive in August 2021.
Prince Adegoroye while speaking a Positive fm programme, POLITICAL PODIUM noted that he believed he is the best candidate for the position being an experienced politician who also has the passion to make life meaningful for the people.
The former lawmaker in Ondo state said the policies of his party, the APC are people-friendly and would be implemented to ensure that the people of Akure South/North constituency enjoy the dividend of democracy the more.
Adegoroye said “I am interested in the seat and i became interested because l now i’m the right candidate for it. When I was in the Ondo house of assembly, there wasn’t any day that I won’t make contributions, I was always active, using the opportunity to draw government attention to the plight of my people, so everybody knows that if Demola Adegoroye gets there, he will make impacts”
He eulogised the former occupier of the seat, Late Hon. Adedayo Omolafe describing him as an unforgettable asset to Akure and Ondo state in general.
“Hon Adedayo Omolafe, our brother, our friend, I thank for his life, you can see that the whole of Akure was in anguish when he died because he did well, he did well for the people. He was a wonderful man May God rest his soul and be with his family”
Speaking on the issue of direct or indirect primaries for elections in the country, Prince Adegoroye was of the opinion that Political Parties should be allowed to decide on whatever mode that suits them to further deepen the nation’s democracy.
He maintained “My own position is that Parties should be allowed to choose the method they are going to use to nominate their own flag bearer.”
He also backed President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to signed the electoral act amendment Bill saying it was in the best interest of Nigerians.
“Don’t forget that buhari is the president to Nigeria, he has access to information, he has access to records, so I believe he will do what is in the best interest of every Nigerian and what is in the best interest of our democracy…Adegoroye said.
On whether the APC has impressed the people of Ondo state in the last Five years, Prince Adegoroye pointed out that the current administration under Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was trying his best in all areas and would continue to fulfil its promises to the people
“Shortly after arakunrin Akeredolu won the primary election in 2016, i remember that i issued a statement and said to the people of ondo state especially other aspirants that were still brooding over the issue of primaries that look its about service, we want somebody who can come to our party and do well for the people of our state. I told them that Arakunrin Akeredolu is someone that ive known for quite some time and that hes a very principled person, a man of integrity, a firm person and thats what hes been exhibiting” The former lawmaker noted.
Prince Adegoroye urged the people of Ondo State to keep faith in the APC and give it all their support promising that the party would not let them down.
