Women in Akoko Area of Ondo state have staged a peaceful protest over the spate of insecurity in some communities in the northern senatorial district of the state.
Recently, there had been cases of kidnapping and robbery of 18 passengers at ifira Akoko, killing of police officer in Oka Akoko, abduction of Vice principal and teachers of Auga grammar school among others.
The women who were chanting songs of peace with brooms and bible trooped to the Olubaka’s Palace in Oka Akoko in their number.
They said the protest was to bring to the notice of the government and security agencies in the state the worsening security situation in Akoko area.
The protesting women noted that the situation had become worrisome as the area now has high crime rate in the state calling on stakeholders to rise to the challenge.
Addressing the women, the chairman, Council of traditional rulers in Akoko division, the olubaka of okaland, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye appealed to various communities in Akokoland to form vigilante groups while local hunters should be encouraged to compliment the efforts of regular security agencies in combating crime in the area.
Oba Adeleye noted that it was disheartening that investors had refused to come to Akoko because of insecurity.
He however commended Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for the establishment of Amotekun security outfit to reinforce the existing security apparatus saying the agency was performing well.
