Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyawu- Akeredolu has tasked expectant mothers to embrace safe motherhood practices in order to reduce maternal and child mortality rate in the state.
Mrs Akeredolu stated this at the distribution of delivery items popularly called Solayo kits to over sixty expectant mothers at the Akure South Local Government Area area of the state as part of activities to mark this International Women’s Day celebrations.
Mrs Akeredolu said the program was to reduce the rate at which expectant mothers go to delivery rooms without any kit and also reduce maternal mortality rate in the state.
During a health talk at the program, primary health care coordinator in Akure south local government , Dr Adeyemi-Osowe Owosehin urged expectant mothers to practise personal hygiene and exercise regularly so as to deliver their babies safely.
He stressed the importance of balanced diet for expectant mothers and the need for them to visit the hospital regularly, for both ante-natal and post-natal care for a healthy pregnancy.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Alice Daniel and Joy Nwoko thanked the governor’s wife for the gesture and promised to heed all medical advice.
