14/3/2022. ASUU/STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has extended its roll-over strike by eight weeks effective from 12am Monday.

A statement by ASUU President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke says the ASUU NEC met and evaluated the response of the Federal Government of Nigeria to the outstanding issues of the review of conditions of service and the deployment of UTAS amongst other issues for which ASUU had declared a one-month rolling strike to compel Federal Government to act.

According to a statement, at the close of the meeting, ASUU NEC says it is convinced that the Federal Government has not done anything tangible to warrant the suspension of the strike.

It therefore resolved to roll it on for an additional eight weeks to provide the Federal Government enough time to fulfil the timelines they have set for the resolution of the issues.

The statement stresses that the industrial action remains total and comprehensive, adding that there shall continue to be no teaching, supervision, statutory meetings, Faculty/College/Departmental Board, or Senate, inaugural lectures, convocation and matriculation ceremonies.
