Some university students in ondo state have described the extension of strike by the Academic staff union of Universities as a way to further cripple tertiary education in Nigeria.

The Students, Awodeyi Precious and Adebimpe blessings while speaking with Positive fm in Akure however appealed to both ASUU and the federal government to reach a compromise so that their future would not remain bleak.

Another student, Mr Oluwatosin Akinduro alleged government and ASUU of conniving to cripple public universities in order to boost private universities.

A lecturer with the department of mass communication, Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, Dr Lamidi Ishola stressed that most demands of ASUU were geared towards improving the tertiary education sub-sector as such, government should accede to the demands.

Commenting on the extension, ASUU chairman, FUTA BRANCH, Professor Olayinka Awopetu said yniversity education in Nigeria was already down and needed urgent rebuild.

Meanwhile, a visit to the federal university of technology Akure, Futa and ADEKUNLE AJASIN university, AKUNGBA AKOKO showed that some students were still on the campus hoping that ASUU would call off the strike before the end of the eight weeks.
