Osun state governnor Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has paid Compensation to victims of police brutalities in the state..
Thirteen victims of police brutalities which resulted into End SARS protest were Compensated with the highest amount given put at seven million naira.
Speaking at the event, Governor Oyetola noted that no society would progress if injustice , inequalities and lawlessness thrive hence the need to uphold justice and the rule of law.
“Today’s occasion should therefore be regarded as a deliberate quest to reject the wrongs of yesterday and set our society on the path of truth.
As an administration we believe that no society could progress where the reign of injustice, inequalities and lawlessness.is allowed to thrive.”
Governnor Oyetola expressed governent’s readiness to support the Nigerian police to implement relevant reforms to enable it play its role of maintaning.law and order.
He informed.that the report and the list of those that suffered.police brutalities had been forwarded.to the federal government.
Some of the victims of police brutalities who got compesated, Mr Teslim Ibitoye and Mrs Khadijat Adebisi narrated their experiences with the police and tasked the governent to ensure total eradication of police brutality across the country.
Earlier, the chairman of the End SARS panel, Honorable Justice Akin Oladimeji, retired, had commended the state government for deeming it fit to pay the compensation despite the state’s meagre resources.
