The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, is to begin installation of early warning lightning detectors across the country to cushion the effects of extreme weather conditions on people and businesses.
The Director General, Professor Mansur Matazuf while taking delivery of some of the gadgets from the patnering agency, Earth Network in His office in Abuja, said the lightning detectors would make prediction for thunderstorm more precise with at least one hour of alert ahead of an occurrence.
Professor Matazu explained the benefit of the thunderstorm detectors to the economy.
The West African representative, Earth Network, Jean Blasé Ngameni assured that the equipment would guarantee improved weather and lightning predictions.
