PRESS RELEASE
The gruesome murder of innocent worshippers on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at Saint Francis Catholic Church, Owo mirrors the level of moral decadence, insecurity and low value placed on human life in our nation.
I have been completely saddened, depressed and uncomfortable since the unfortunate incident occurred. And the worst of it all, it happened on Pentecost day that the victims faithful had gone to commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Christ.
I wish to state categorically that the event was an act of terrorism and must be condemned by all well meaning Nigerians. Also, there is need for both the Federal and State governments to immediately restructure and strengthen the security architecture in the country to mitigate the pervasiveness of these dastard acts.
Furthermore, government should intensify efforts in order to ensure that the perpetrators are punished when arrested to serve as deterrence to others.
Lastly, I pray that God Almighty will comfort the families that lost loved ones as well as quicken the healing process of those injured and are receiving treatment. I also commiserate with the entire Christian community in Ondo State, the Catholic Church, and Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye and III (the traditional ruler of Owo).
