Traders at Adebowale market along Ondo road in Akure escaped death on Saturday as a trailer truck loaded with palm kernel swerved and crashed into some shops in the early hours of the day.

The incident which was said to have occured around four o clock in the morning left many shops and houses in the area damaged.

According to an eyewitness who preferred anonymity,the accident occured when the trailer was driving into the Adebowale Community during which the truck swerved due to the bad condition of the road and fell on some shops and houses.

Speaking with Positive FM, traders whose shops were affected said their goods were also destroyed in the process.

While thanking God that no live was lost to the accident as people were still in their homes, the traders and residents appealed to the state government to urgently construct the Adebowale road to avert incessant accidents in the area.

One of the shop owners, Mrs Rahmat Ashimolowo who was visibly in shock over the incident said accident involving trucks had become a daily occurrence on the road.

On his part the Chief Imam of Aponmu land, Alhaji Mukaila Ashiru pointed out that trailers ply the road on a daily basis hence the need for government to construct the road to prevent more accidents.

On his part, a former chairman, Landlord Association of information village , Adebowale Community, Mr Lanre Oluwateru who revealed that the community had several times fixed the road through communal efforts also made a passionate appeal to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to include Adebowale road in the next phase of road to be constructed within Akure metropolis.

Mr Oluwateru stated that the road was important to the area as it houses factories and private companies as well as farmers who transport their farm produce to the city through the road.
