House wants foreign affairs ministry to secure Ekweremadu’s release

The House of Representatives has urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British High Commission to provide necessary assistance in securing the release of Senator Ike Ekweremadu who was arrested alongside his wife for human trafficking in the United Kingdom.

This was the resolution of a motion moved under matters of urgent national Importance by a member from Bauchi state Abdulahi Abdulkadir at plenary.

According to the lawmaker, it has become vital for the house to intervene through effective legislative process to secure their release.

Contributing to the debate , the deputy minority leader Toby Okechukwu called for a thorough investigation of the allegations leading to their arrest.

The Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, while calling for fairness and justice on the issue urged Nigerians to apply caution on their opinions and avoid media trial
