As part of efforts to rid Ondo state of any outbreak of epidemic and restore the aesthetic beauty of the State, the house of assembly has mandated the ministry of environment to urgently ensure evacuation of wastes littering strategic locations in the metropolis.

The house gave the mandate during an interface with the ministry of environment and waste management board in Akure.

The lawmakers who frowned at indiscriminate dumping of waste and overgrown weeds that defaced the state capital charged the ministry to review its working policies, enforce discipline and engage stakeholders to ensure the state is not overwhelmed with waste.

The speaker Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun also mandated the ministry to look inward to generate funds and create job opportunity for the youths.

Responding the commissioner for environment, Mr Sunday Akinwalere blamed none release of funds and skyrocketting price of diesel for the prolong evacuation of waste around the city.

Mr Akinwalere also called on various MDAs to take up the responsibility of clearing weeds within their office environments.

The commissioner informed the house that the state government had acquired two amphibian excavators in addition to the one currently in use in order to clear clogged water ways.

On the management of waste dump sites, Mr Akinwalere noted that waste evaluators have been instructed not to dump waste at ilado dump site but make use of the new one on apomu- Ondo road.

He added that plans are on the way to erect perimeter fence for the new dump site while bulldozer will be deployed to push back waste at the old dump site.
