President Muhammadu Buhari says the stability of Chad Republic and other neighbouring countries is in the best interest of Nigeria.

The President stated this in Abuja, while receiving a Special Envoy from the Transitional President of Chad, General Mahamat Idris Derby.

He told the envoy that relations between Nigeria and Chad transcended that of neighbours, as the late President, Marshal Idris Derby Itno, kept him constantly briefed on developments in the country.

He said he was impressed with the leadership of the country in stabilising the polity, noting that the more exclusion neighbours create, the more they endanger present and future generations of their countries.

President Buhari noted that he would closely monitor developments, as Chadians hold a National Dialogue, and offered the support of Nigeria in any form required.

The Special Envoy, Mr. Brah Mahamat Dallah, who is also the country’s Minister of Public Works, extolled the long relationship between Nigeria and Chad, and indicated that over 99% of Chadians were interested in, and taking part in the National Dialogue, including main rebel groups.

He said the parley, which will hold tomorrow, was sovereign, and that the conclusions would be scrupulously implemented, stressing that Chad needs Nigeria’s support during and after the event.
