Ondo state government has received some food items from the federal government in a bid to cushion the effect of inflation and rising cost of foodstuff in the 36 states of the federation.
Presenting the food items, the permanent secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr Olusade Adesola said in response to the need assessment, the federal government directed the distribution of food items to all states of the federation.
Mr Adesola said the gesture was in line with the social intervention programmes of the present administration to prioritize the welfare of the people especially at this time when the country is faced with myriads of challenges.
He noted that more of such social programs will be facilitated in the course of the year to support farmers, encourage agriculture amongst the youth and boost productivity.
“In response to need assessment conducted by government which indicates growing concerns on scarcity and high prices of food, government directed the release of food materials from the strategic reserves to be distributed in the states of the federation.”
He further noted “The government has been implementing some social intervention programs. In partnership with the state, you will recall that we just harvested about 150 names of Ondo state that will benefit from the conditional cash transfer from government.”
“Under the presidential youth empowerment scheme, we are also harvesting about 200 youths of the state that will benefit from the various empowerment programs of the federal govt”
Receiving the Delegation on behalf of the Ondo the government, the deputy Governor who is also the chairman state emergency management agency, Lucky Aiyedatiwa thanked the federal government for reaching out to the people in the 36 states of the federation.
Mr Aiyedatiwa said the delivery of the food items will go a long way to support families in a bid to cushion the effect of rise in cost of commodities in the market.
The deputy Governor said government will continue to support the social intervention programs of the federal government in the interest of the people.
