The Ondo State House of Assembly has charged the state Ministry of Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, to ensure sustainable water supply through the provision of potable water for all residents.

Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun stated this during an oversight visit by the Assembly Committee on Water Resources to the Ministry in Akure.

Mr Oleyelogun who hailed the Ministry for effectivity rehabilitating boreholes for rural dwellers through the KAMOMI AKETI water policy, charged them to double their efforts.

Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Jamiu Maito said the visit led by the speaker showed the importance of the ministry.

Mr Maito tasked the ministry to ensure increased access to safe sanitation and hygiene with a view to enhancing the health, general wellbeing and hygienic environment for the citizenry.

In his address, the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Mr Fatai Olotu said the ministry had rehabilitated 2,163 boreholes in 1,265 communities, provided 88 functional water facilities in 15 Local Government Areas of the State.

Mr Olotu however stressed that the ministry had been handicapped by inadequate funding and running grants.
