Some youths from ifira-akoko in Akoko South-East local government area of Ondo state have stormed Akure to protest the selection of Mr Oluwadare Ariwajoye by some kingmakers to fill the vacant stool of olufira of ifira akoko.

The youths who staged a protest to the Governor’s office with different placards described the purported selection of Ariwajoye as against the tradition of the town, alleging that he was from Owo town and not from ifira akoko.

The protesters also alleged that some political appointees used government’s influence to manipulate the selection process of new olufira.

They however called on Governor Akeredolu to intervene and ensure that the kingmakers picked someone who is a Prince and a native of the town.

Addressing the protesters, the permanent secretary, ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mr segun Ipinsanya promised that government would look into the process carried out by the kingmakers and ensure that due process was followed.

Mr ipinsanya however described as untrue that Governor Akeredolu sent anyone to manipulate the process, urging the protesters to be law-abiding while expressing their grievances.
