Activities at the Onne Sea Port, Rivers State are to resume in earnest.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr.Jaji Sambo revealed this at the Port premises in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Mr Sambo said he was impressed with the infrastructure on the ground and would meet with all Stakeholders to ensure the Port is maximized.
He gave an assurance that all challenges would be tackled.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Mr.Mohammed Bello Koko said Port activities in Rivers State had to be revived to take off the congestion from the Apapa Port.
Mr Koko said plans to realize the Bonny Deep Sea Port had reached an advanced stage.
The NPA boss observed that it would be proper to have Deep Sea Ports in the South South area of the country to complement activities at the Lekki Deep Sea Port in Lagos and the Apapa Port.
Earlier, the Minister had gone round the Onne Port where some challenges such as abandoned land reclamation, dilapidated berths and some logistics issues were pointed out.
The Minister of Transportation is on a three day visit to Port Harcourt, Rivers State on an assessment tour of rail and Port activities there.
The Onne Sea Port,Rivers State is highly industrialised and caters for the oil and gas needs of the country.
