The Imo State House of Assembly now has a new Speaker.

He is Mr. Emeka Nduka representing Ehime Mbano constituency.

This followed the resignation of the former speaker and member representing Obowo constituency Mr. Kennedy Ibeh.

Mr. Nduka was elected in a special sitting of the house after the deputy speaker Mr. Amara Iwuanyanwu read a letter of resignation signed by the former Speaker.

The reason for the resignation is not yet clear but Radio Nigeria gathered that the former speaker threw in the towel when he was about to be impeached by his colleagues.

Mr. Nduka is the fourth Speaker to emerge in the Imo state house of Assembly since 2019.

The Majority Leader of the house Mr Kanayo Onyemaechi representing Owerri West nominated the new speaker and was seconded by Mrs Uju Onwudiwe representing Njaba constituency all belonging to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.

Mr. Ibeh was sworn in as the third Speaker on November 8, 2021 following the impeachment of Mr Paul Emeziem representing Onuimo constituency for alleged forgery and highhandedness.
