Over eight hundred and sixty thousand children and women are to be vaccinated against measles and other communicable diseases in Ondo state.
The permanent secretary, Ondo State primary health care development agency, Dr Francis Akanbiemu announced this in Akure while during a media engagement on the integrated measles campaign scheduled for October, this year.
Dr Akanbiemu said the campaign against measles would go along with the regular antigens and other vaccines especially covid-19 vaccine.
He explained that beneficiaries of the vaccinations were children under five, expectant mothers, breastfeeding women and other residents who were yet to get vaccinated against coronavirus.
Dr Akanbiemu urged mothers to make themselves and their children available for the exercise while also calling on the general public to get vaccinated against coronavirus which he noted remained deadly.
He added that 10 out of the 18 local government areas in the state would be covered by health personnel between Oct. 20 and Oct. 27 while eligible children in the remaining eight local government areas of the state would be vaccinated between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4.
Also speaking the Director, Disease control, Dr Victor Adefesoye hinted that the integrated measles campaign would run from October 20 to November 4 in all the eighteen local government areas of Ondo State.
On his part, the Director, community health services and education, Dr Samuel Abiona appealed to religious leaders, school owners and community leaders to mobilize children as well as women in their care for the exercise.
