The Olowo of Owo and Paramount Ruler of Owo Land, His Imperial Majesty,Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, has advocated the upgrade of Ondo State – owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo, to a full fledge degree awarding Technical University.
Oba Ogunoye stated this while addressing the Visitation Panel for Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, led by its Chairman, Prof. Olabode Kolade Koriko, during a courtesy call to his palace in Owo.
The Monarch who laid much emphasis on the various benefits derivable, if the 43 years old Institution is upgraded, said, this idea, if taken into consideration, should not put a stop to awards of fundamental certificates courses known with the institution, like the National Diploma and High National Diploma as the case may be.
He said, such step by Government would raise the standard of Science and Technical education in Ondo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
The revered Monarch who had earlier congratulated members of the panel for being found worthy to undertake the onerous assignment, urged them to wholeheartedly with sincerity of purpose deliver the best as expected of them, all in the interest of the State and prosperity.
Speaking earlier, the leader of the team, Prof Olabode Kolade Koriko, informed that, the visit of the panel was premised on the fact that, the institution is situated within the domain of the Monarch and such important team with an elaborate assignment cannot commence work without first pay homage and seek for royal blessings with prayers for a successful outings.
Also speaking during the visit, a prominent son of Owo and a member of the panel, Sir Tayo Aisida enjoined the panel to take a serious look at the welfare of the staff of the great citadel of learning, as the challenges of delayed or non payment of salaries have adversely affected the morale of the workers.
