Some women and youths in Ipesi Akoko in Ondo state have staged a peaceful protest over the vacant stool of Olupesi.
The stool, according to the protesters has been vacant since sixteen years ago following the demise of Oba Peter Amodeni.
The protesters who also included masqurades demanded that a new monarch be selected for the stool, claiming that the situation had retarted the development of the ancient town.
They chanted solidarity songs while also holding placards with various inscriptions.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, a youth leader Mr Katola kayode said the ancient town had suffered a setback due to lack of a monarch.
He cited one of such under development as the abandonment of Ebomi lake, one of the flourishing tourist centres in ondo state, situated in Ipesi Akoko.
“We are appealing to the state government to wade into this matter, we need an Oba,” he urged .
said, “Appointment of a regent is very alien to Ipesi tradition, we don’t want regent again, we want an Oba.” He appealed
A former supervising councillor in Akiko south east local government, Mr Akinwale Awolumate urged kingmakers in the town to begin the process of selecting a new monarch for Ipesi Akoko.
