Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has embarked on a seven day technical training of staff on election technologies.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC in Ondo State, Ambassador Rufus Akeju at the opening of the training in Akure said the main objective of the training exercise was to help participants effectively and efficiently lead and conduct training session for other Election Technology trainers, Registration Area Suppport Staff and other election officials for the 2023 general elections.
Ambassador Akeju reminded participants that the use of technology was legitimized in Sections 47 and 50(2) of the Electoral Act 2022 and had been signed into law which gives legal backing to use of smart card readers/BVAS, electronic accreditation of voters and any other voter accreditation technology that INEC would deploy.
He urged participants to pay adequate attention to the training since they would have the direct and possibly final contact with the election personnel on training matters.
The REC also enjoined facilitators to ensure adequate participation by all the Trainees in order to accomplish the set objectives of the exercise.
