A young man suspected to be a member of the proscribed indigenous people of Biafra have been allegedly shot dead by the police in Imo state.

 

In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Micheal Abattam, the deceased, operating in company of five others attacked police personnel who were at a checkpoint near UBA roundabout Orlu in Orlu local government area of the state.

 

According to him, the suspects on approaching the checkpoint around nine o’clock on Thursday morning opened fire on the security operatives but were resisted by the superior firepower of the police.

 

Mr. Abattam explained that one person was neutralized during the shooting while five others abandoned their vehicle with arms in it and fled into the nearby bush after sustaining severe injuries.

 

He appealed to the public to report anybody seen with bullet wound to the security agents.

 

Mr Abattam assured residents of the state of the preparedness of the command to ensure peaceful yuletide noted that adequate measures had been taken to check criminal activities in the state.
